Adaa from India

Age on Arrival: 16 years 3 months
Languages: Hindi, English
Interests: Swimming, socialising with friends and family

Adaa is adventurous and can’t wait to broaden her horizons in New Zealand. She enjoys spending time with friends and family in her home, a large urban city in the central part of India. At school Adaa is a conscientious student. She’d like to study business and one day create her own business. In her free time, Adaa is a competitive swimmer.

Simran from India

Age on Arrival: 16 years 7 months
Languages: Hindi, English
Interests: Basketball, athletics, dance

Simran is a friendly, energetic, and loves to be involved in everything! She’s curious to learn about new cultures and very excited to travel to New Zealand. Simran enjoys many sports and activities. Her favourites are basketball, athletics and dance. Her dream for the future is to study psychology.

Umar Qayyum from Malaysia

Age on Arrival: 15 years 1 months
Languages: Malay, English
Interests: Volleyball, cycling, going to the gym, reading

Umar Qayyum is responsible and motivated to do well at school and in life. He’s a school prefect and has represented his school on an exchange programme to Japan. After school, he can often be found at volleyball practice or in the gym. He also enjoys cycling and is passionate about sport in general.
Umar Qayyum is also an avid reader, enjoys meeting new people and likes to spend time with friends and family.

Prabhnoor from India

Age on Arrival: 16 years 7 months
Languages: Hindi, English
Interests: Tennis, football, cooking

Prabhnoor is a well-travelled, conscientious student, interested in Science and Analytics.
He is a sporty lad, having represented his school at state level in tennis and football, and he also enjoys playing cricket.
Prabhnoor is a real foodie and enjoys cooking and trying new foods. For religious reasons, he does not eat beef or pork.
He comes from a large city in central India, rich in culture, heritage and food.

Quinza from Indonesia

Quinza is cheerful and always tries to bring positive energy to the people around her.
She’s the oldest of four children and currently attends boarding school. Quinza enjoys travelling with her family, watching movies, baking, cooking and trying new food. She loves exploring new places and is always open to new experiences. For religious reasons, Quinza does not eat pork or lard.

Interests: Travel, cooking, baking

All types of families are encouraged to apply; there is no “typical” AFS host family. As a not-for-profit organisation, AFS doesn’t pay host families. Hosting an AFS exchange student is your family’s chance to experience a new culture in your own home. AFS friendships last a lifetime, expand your horizons and give you a new son or daughter. AFS offers support throughout the entire process.
