About Japan

Japan is the most popular destination for Australian school students to go abroad due to a long history of programs between the two countries.  Each year AFS Intercultural Programs sends students from all around Oceania to Japan to experience the Japanese culture and its people, learn the language, and to live with a carefully selected host family to fully immerse themselves in the Japanese way of life.

The AFS Japanese Intensive Language Program sees students from around the world undertake a 4 week program to Japan in Oct 2024 to improve their Japanese language skills and learn about the Japanese culture first-hand by living with a Japanese family.

This program can be a life changing and eye opening experience, and will open students up to not only a new culture, but will help forge life-long connections and friendships.  Living and studying abroad will prepare you for life in ways that no other experience can – you will learn more, gain more and grow more than you thought possible.
