AFS NZ, AFS Japan, and the Morimura Houmeikai Foundation are proud to offer five scholarship places for New Zealand students to participate in AFS International’s world-leading intercultural education programme Global You Adventurer.

In this fully-online programme, you will explore:

  • How you can stand for issues you really care about and help make the world a better place
  • How to be part of a global community of people passionate about making a difference
  • What makes differences between cultures important and beautiful
  • Why we all need to build our empathy muscles
  • How to avoid jumping to conclusions
  • What to do about inequalities you encounter around you

What's it about?

Programme Details

  • 20 different go-at-your-own-speed modules, which take around 16 hours to complete over 5 weeks
  • 4 online facilitated dialogue sessions where you will connect with the global peers in your cohort, as well as an AFS Qualified Facilitator, to reflect on the content, exchange ideas, and participate in group discussion as you build global competence skills
  • A closed online forum for connecting and sharing with global peers
  • AFS Global Competence Certificate upon program completion

Scholarship Requirements

  • Be between 14 and 17 years old on the program start date
  • Have high motivation for learning intercultural skills but face economic barriers to participation in intercultural learning
  • Be proficient in English
  • Have access to a computer, smartphone or other digital device with an integrated webcam and mic plus a stable internet connection for taking part in the online live sessions and to access the GY Program content and forum.
  • Be available to participate in the five-week GYA program starting from August 1, 2023.
  • Commit to sharing a follow up reflection with us after completing the GYA program.
