Volunteer on the stunning island of Curieuse while you contribute to important conservation efforts to preserve some of the islands most important species.

This program only runs from August – March as this is the season for Turtles & Lemon Sharks.

The Program has several focuses that include but are not limited to:

  • Turtle Nesting: you will partake in long walks on the beach looking for turtle/tracks. Volunteers will make notes on site, size, species, nest, carapace and identification markings. You will also participate in in-water snorkels.
  • Coco de Mer, which are Endemic to the Seychelles. Volunteers will record information on male/female species.
  • Giant Tortoise census – A population lives on Curieuse. They are hunted and eggs taken to either eat or sell on as pets etc. Their population is carefully guarded especially the babies!
  • Mangrove census: Mangroves on Curieuse where basically destroyed during Tsunami in 2004.  As a volunteer you will learn about 6 of 7 mangrove species on Curieuse and how to identify them to record useful data.
  • Bird Surveys: Volunteers will conduct hikes around the island to record the number of bird species nesting on Curieuse, using both sight and sound surveying methodologies

You will also be tracking down shark pups in order to gather useful data pertaining to population and growth rates on the elusive under studied species.
