At this extraordinary time, when our borders are closed and students are not able to embark on an overseas exchange, AFS remains dedicated to our mission of intercultural education.

We are in the process of developing a series of exciting and enriching intercultural experiences based right here in Aotearoa. They are open to all domestic and international students aged 15 – 18 years.

These short-term school holiday programmes are designed to empower our future changemakers by gaining valuable leadership skills, building on global competency and broadening their perspective of the world and their place in it – all essential skills and experience required to navigate today’s diverse and interconnected world.

Te Ao Māori Programme

Explore Te Ao Māori. Discover yourself.

Join us on a journey of discovery as we explore the Māori world view, their traditions and Mātauranga (knowledge systems) which are celebrated and woven into the fabric of Aotearoa.

The AFS Te Ao Māori Programme is your opportunity to explore our identity as New Zealanders. You will visit important Tohu Whenua sites and engage with influential Māori who have helped shape the culture within Aotearoa on a community, national and global level.

Along the way, you will develop valuable intercultural leadership skills and learn how future changemakers (that’s you!) can make a positive impact on society in Aotearoa.

The Te Ao Māori Programme is open to domestic and international students aged 15 – 18 years and runs from 6 – 12 July 2020 in Wellington. Applications close Sunday 21 June 2020.
