Scholarships and Grants

We believe every student who wants to go on an AFS exchange should have the opportunity to do so. Each year approximately one-in-four AFS Year Programme exchange students receive financial assistance. Plenty of AFS students also fund raise their own way overseas and received community funding.

Some the options are described below.

Scholarships

The closing date for scholarships for 2011 exchange programmes is 1 October(unless otherwise stated in scholarship description).

The following scholarships are available: (Note: all are for Year Programme students, with the exception of those marked*)

The scholarship application form is a part of your AFS exchange application. Download it here and email it to nzl.scholarships@afs.org once completed. Note: You can still apply for a scholarship even if you have already applied for an AFS exchange.

For more information about AFS scholarships email nzl.scholarships@afs.org.

Grants

We expect students to fund raise to finance their exchange, but do offer grants as a last resort for those with limited fundraising opportunities. We allocate grants on the basis of financial need.

If you want to apply for a grant, your parents or guardians need to complete an application form (download form here word) and email it to nzl.scholarships@afs.org when complete. Alternatively, post it to:

For exchanges departing between July and September 2012 we will be accepting grant applications until 29 April 2012.By this time, we would expect that your fundraising is almost complete and any grant is needed to supplement a shortfall.
